Commutes from heck

Back in NY/NJ this week, it takes 1.5 hours to fly from Chicago to NJ, it takes 2 hours on a bus tonight to go from NY to NJ. I almost like air travel better.

In other news, (not that there is much), been playing around with something called CrystalXP which basically changes the Windows XP shell to look completely different, and far, far cooler (for those interested go here: http://www.crystalxp.net/bricopack/en.htm This isn't for older PC's and not for the faint of heart. But it makes things look so, so much nicer

In other news, spent last weekend playing with the new family toys: A used iBook G4 that I got off ebay and a new Dell for the other half. Funny story about the Dell, she needed a new desktop but as of Jan 30, every new Dell comes with Vista. Which is cute if you don't care about running old software. She did care though, so we snagged one with XP off the Dell outlet (bought but never sent to a previous customer), and I spent a good portion of last weekend removing the crapware that comes with it.

On the iBook side, I'm still playing with it. It's preeeeety, as most things apple are. Being a PC user for so long, I'm relearning the MAC world, which is fun to do.

In other notes this week:

  • On Letterman last Friday night, I saw a group called the Fab Faux do a dead on, near perfect version of "I am the walrus" (from the Beatles) - It was mind bogglingly good.
  • While listening to that very same song during the week (the original Beatles version), I came across men on stilts down at Wall Street promoting Jet Blue. When reality is more messed up than "I am the walrus" you have to really start worrying
  • Dunkin Donuts White Hot Chocolate is heaven in a cup
  • I heard Anna Nicole Smith died, what really put the story at a special level of "holy crapness" was when Zsa Zsa Gabor's husband claimed to be the father of the baby. That just puts things at a new level.
  • I learned that married people and couples in long term relationships (that might as well be married) are celebrating Valentine's Day this weekend since holidays like this that fall during the workweek are really hard to celebrate when everyone has jobs - expect a lot of births in November.
  • El Cuero Guapo will be going to Ireland next month. There will be a blog. For those who think I've lost my mind, well, technically, you're correct, but check the link on the right side for the blog from Germany last year
