Cliffs, Cars, Galway and Signs

Before we begin, I have a few questions about the movie Casino Royale (please skip if you haven't seen nor care to see the movie):

  1. Were there writers involved?
  2. If so, was the writer schizophrenic?
  3. If so, does the writer dig Goth women?
  4. From a male point of view certain scenes were just so, so, so very wrong. And painful. Which leads me to wonder about this writer again, and question exactly what said writer does in his/her spare time?
Anyway, let us move on.

Today, after a very filling breakfast, we began our adventure by heading to the Cliffs of Moher, which, after seeing, you will really want to see Moher of. (Ok, bad pun quota has been reached for this blog, continuing on, but thank you folks, the next show is at 11PM). Truly spectacular describes them, you'll see some pix in the photo link on the right.

Also, the weather was wishy washy (literally) again today, in fact one pic I uploaded shows proof of this. It's the one with the clear line between blue skies and rain.

The Cliffs of Moher is nothing that you have ever seen, or can see in the US. It's sheer massiveness alone is worth it.

Oh, but did I mention that first, drivers here are not, uh, exactly. Safe? Let's review, I, a driver from NJ, the most dangerous group of drivers known to man, is saying that drivers here are not so good. I kinda figured this out when the top story on EVERY SINGLE NEWSCAST today referred to the fact that 8 people died in car accidents in Ireland this past weekend. Now, that doesn't seem high, but the level of importance place on the story was my first clue.

Seeing the drivers in action kinda cemented that. Driver here drive either:

  • Really slow
  • As if they're being chased with swerving and complete disregard for life
So, tomorrow when I drive should be fun.

The Cliffs were quite interesting, check the signs I took pix of, they had some interesting ones...

From there, we proceeded northward, stopping at a place called Doolin where there were some amazing Limestone formations right off the ocean. I had a blast climbing literally on rocks to the edge of the ocean and trying not to get A)Soaked by sea spray B) Fall on my butt. I narrowly avoided having both happen.

Lunch, was at an actual Irish pub (versus the non actual Irish pubs they call "McDonald's" here), where I had my first (but certainly not last Guinness) of the trip. Guinness tastes far better here and far better from draft. I had cod and chips with that since I figured I should go all "Irish meal" today.

Back on the road, and with some amazing scenery to chew upon along the way. We made it to Galway. Again, nothing like this exists in the US, and that's probably what I'm enjoying most about this trip so far. The fact that I'm seeing stuff I have never seen before.

Everything here is not as...Big as the US and everything has charm. Everything here seems like it has some level of personality that's lacking in big city America. There are buildings all over the place that are easily older than the US too. Something cool about that.

I might be hard to tell from all this, but we did do a lot of walking, and wisely, decided to take the larger highways back to Limerick. "Larger" is a 1 lane in each direction highway with a higher speed limit. A "really big" highway has 2 lanes in each direction.

Tomorrow, we're off to pop the Cork. (Excuse me sir, your bad joke bandwidth for this blog has been exceeded, we're going to have to stop you now...)
