Jueves, el 3 de Abril de 2008:
Up early to go with Seth and Mar to finalize license stuff for the wedding tomorrow. First, a quick breakfast at the restaurant where, get this, I had some coffee, just to throw Marlene into a state of confusion for the day. It worked. Next, into Cuernavaca to the local government offices, which, seem to be in what was at some point, a large motel complex. Seriously, you could have changed the signs to Motel 6 and rented a room. There was even a large working pool in the center of it all. At some point, it had to have been a hotel. Licensing part went fine, since I'm the best man, I needed to show proof I was who I am. Although, I'm rarely sure what that is in the first place. From there, we went back to the car and Mar (not Marlene, Mar is Seth's wife), gave us a tour of the area. She dropped Seth, Marlene and I off to tour around while Mar took care of wedding stuff.
Now, driving in Cuernavaca, or Mexico in general reminds me of when you see movies of India. Lots of cars, tiny roads, and no space. In the cities we've seen so far, everything is truly on top of each other. Even the airport in Mexico city. There's the terminal, and literally across the side street, city. It's surreal. So yeah, tight twisty roads, like the road to Hana without Hana and with enclosed walls. Anyway, the three of us saw the famous Cathedral here, so famous, I don't know the name offhand. But it was nice. Then we walked through town, which was cool. From there, we went the local museum and spent oddly, a few hours there. It was really nice, even if I barely understood anything in said museum.
From there, Mar picked us up and went out for a very nice lunch, where I had some Pacifico beer, which was quite good.
Next went to the Mega Mart of course. You know me, I'm a geek, so we went to this ridiculously large supermarket/electronics store/toy/motorcycle/guns store. You know, like Walmart on steroids (that was the official canned steroids allegory for this blog today). I was good, I bought no books (well, they are in Spanish here, so that's a handicap), but I did buy some CD's that I'll recap at the end of this trip.
From there, we headed back to the hotel, where we tried to find the hypothetical internet connection that they say exists here.
As you can tell by reading this, I did finally get a hold of one. Although it's only 5:30 now, so I'll continue the rest of this on the next one...There is a supposed wireless network, which my computer swears exists, but the network doesn't want to let anyone connect...so I'm using the wire for the only wire network they have here...
I'll post at some point, but tonight, there's a good dinner ahead, and tomorrow, a wedding where I will give a best man speech in 2 languages - for the second time in a week....
