Day 4 - Financialness! Churchiness!

Day 4 started off with our normal breakfast at the room and then a ride on the tube to the Monument station. In the heart of the financial district, we wandered around and since this is where I had stayed in previous trips my memory of the area returned a bit.

We made our way to St. Paul's Cathedral and then proceeded along the streets of London, many of them, it seems, older than the US. It's in this area that we found Temple church, literally buried away off the main street. We also stopped in the courtyard of Somerset house to rest for a bit and take in the nice day.

Next, we found ourselves in Convent Garden, a large market area, and a very busy place to go for lunch. And, to my geek's delight, found the British Transport museum. This was pretty cool as my favorite museum in NYC in the Transit Museum there.

The next hour was spent among old buses and trains. Gotta dig that.

Buses!

For lunch we had sushi at Tobiko (http://www.tobiko.co.uk) which was quite good.

From there, we wandered around the area some more and passed through Trafalgar Square again as we made our way towards our next destination, Westminster Abbey.

We passed 10 Downing Street (http://www.number10.gov.uk/history-and-tour) the seat of the UK government, and made our way past Big Ben to Westminster Abbey. We went in and spent the next hour touring this massive church (http://www.westminster-abbey.org/).

Don't $*&^ with 10 Downing Street.

Westminster Abbey. Big. Churchy.

From there, we made the trek back to the hotel stopping for dinner the Daquise Restaurant, the oldest Polish restaurant in London. I can't recall the last time or if I've even eaten at a Polish restaurant before. I had the Polish platter which consisted of: pirogi (ravioli-like dumplings stuffed with mushrooms or cheese), golabki (cabbage rolls), platski (potato pancakes) and bigos (meat and cabbage hunter's stew) and it was very good, and very filling.

So far, the food in London has been good, which is a great thing.

From there, we rolled back to the apartment, awaiting the next adventure.
