Star Wars in Concert?!?!?!?!?

Either this was very geeky or very cool or both. We headed down to Philadelphia yesterday to see Star Wars in Concert.

Now, first about going to Philly versus staying in the lovely garden state to see a show at the Meadowlands. The Meadowlands absolutely sucks as a venue. It is the most goddawful, overpriced, crowded place on earth to see a concert and if GOD him or herself were to make a one time only appearance at earth and it was only to be at the Meadowlands, I would not go because it is at the Meadowlands. Not only is there always massive traffic getting into the place (no matter how early you arrive), but getting out is like those disaster movies where the roads are clogged for miles. Top that off with you could wind up parking 2(!) miles from the venue itself in one of the "local" lots provided. Top that with the fact that parking will cost $25 bucks as well. Top that with the very high prices for nourishment at the Meadowlands (this includes Giants Stadium and the IZOD Arena). Top that with tiny tiny seats. So really, seeing a show anyplace else (including in a pit of fire being eaten by live snakes) is generally a better idea.

So, I like seeing my shows in Philly. It's easy to get to. There are multiple parking areas. Parking is $10 cheaper. Food prices are more reasonable. Seats at the Wachovia Center are not comfortable either, but, at least they're padded. I got home an hour and a quarter quicker from the show last night than when I saw U2 at the Meadowlands (the show that made me swear off ever going there again) in September.

So anywho, we did go see Star Wars in Concert (http://www.starwarsinconcert.com/ - Note sound plays), which was actually a very good, well put together show. It's basically a live orchestra that plays music from all six movies, with narration by Anthony Daniels (who played C3P0) and a giant screen that shows clips from the movies above them. For me, it was worth it just to hear the Imperial March and more importantly, the Cantina song from the movies played live. What was rare was that it was show for all ages, and all liked it.

Now, as proof that anyone will like this, my wife, not the biggest Star Wars fan at all, even liked it. As she put it, even as a non-fan, you were entertained.

So, as I end this shameless plug for going to go see the show, and my exposing of my hatred of the Meadowlands, I do have to say that even, I, Star Wars fan since the age of 4, was very impressed with the show.
