For a long weekend, me and my other half have come down to Austin, Texas to visit our friend Bernd (formerly of Germany and Ireland). But this comes at the end of a weird week. The earlier part of this week was spent enjoying the pleasures of a massive allergy attack. Now, I don't know about you folks, but my allergy attacks act like colds without being a cold. So, for most of the week, I've either had a sore throat, been unable to breathe, or both. As we got closer to the leaving on Friday, I managed to add one more fun symptom - A total loss of my voice (from teaching).
Also, I might add, it's never fun flying when you have congestion. Like I did today. Which brings us to today. Mute me and my wife made our way to Austin. I only lost about 50% of my hearing in my right ear, which was better than when I flew congested a few years ago.
We get to Austin and learn that our bag will be joining us later, oddly, it does, around about 6 in the evening. Anyway, Bernd meets us at the airport, and, after a quick stop at his apartment, we head out to a truly magical lunch at: Rudy's which was an incredible way to start the trip. I could eat here every meal of every day.
Next, we headed into downtown Austin and walked around for a bit (even stopping at the flagship Whole Foods) until we got the call that our bag was going to meet us at Bernd's apartment (apparently, our bag has gained sentience and controls its own destiny).
Reclaiming our sentient luggage, we head for dinner at North by Northwest where we all had excellent dinners.
Back at the apartment now, this entry will be fairly short, since I've slept all of about 10 hours the entire week. Time to sleep, more writing tomorrow...
