After yet another weird night's sleep, where I either slept heavily or barely, I wake up groggy from the Tylenol Nighttime cold pill I took. We have breakfast and make our way to San Antonio to meet up with a friend of my wife's, who lives in the area.
But first, there's an important stop to make. Can you guess where we stopped based on this picture?
Why Cabela's of course. Bernd had never been to one, and there was one literally on the way, so we had to stop. It's always an experience when one goes to a Cabelas....
Moving on, we head to San Antonio, meeting up with Gaby in front the Rainforest Cafe on Riverwalk, which is basically what it says it is, a bunch of restaurants and stores winding along a river in the middle of San Antionio. We walk around Riverwalk for a bit, before making our way over to Market Square for lunch at Mi Tiera. Lunch was some great Mexican food which included a slight rumble where my wife and Gaby fought over who was going to pay for lunch. Having learned that getting in the middle of two hispanic women arguing is about as useless as trying to follow traffic laws in NJ, I stay quiet. When the dust settles, we head out, but not after making our waiter happy as he seems to dig hispanic women settling their differences, even suggesting he bring some mud.
We head over to the Alamo next and walk around a bit, so now I can say I remember the Alamo. From there our next stop is the Tower of the Americas where you up high above San Antonio and get a great view of the city. It was really nice up there and there was a nice cool breeze, enough where my shirt was flapping around in the breeze like a flag, so, if you're on a date with a guy and he suggests you all go up to the tower, you may want to consider whether wearing a loose skirt is a good idea or not. I'll leave that decision up to you, as I couldn't possibly tell you whether this is a good or bad thing for you on a date.
Next, we head back to Riverwalk and walk around a bit more, finally stopping at Waxy Oconnors Irish Pub to people watch and grab a beer. And, to rest our weary feet.
Saying goodbye to Gaby, we head back to Austin, which is where I'm writing this as we head up I35, having just been stuck behind an accident for a bit.
Before I sign this day off though, I have to note one thing I have learned about Texas, the spandex industry can survive any recession as people of any shape or size seem to wear it, often with disastrous results.
Finally, we grab some Arby's and head to watch the Yankees win and make it to the World Series!
