Planes, rains and jogging in sneakers

Joined by the lovely and talented other half this morning (she got only 2 hours of sleep) we set out to explore/re-explore Chicago. Breakfast was bought at the corner bakery and eaten at the lakefront. From there, we walked up to Navy Pier where mass amounts of humans were gathering to watch the airshow. We watched it for a while, seeing some really cool maneuvers by an F15 and other planery. Really cool stuff.

In a rather surreal moment, I was sitting at the airshow, with Marlene asleep on my shoulder and texting my friend living in Poland (formerly of Ireland (see past posts) formerly of Germany (see the Germany trip from last year)). I had emailed him the other day because I forgot where he lived in Poland as his name came up when I was talking to a co-worker who was from Poland but then looked like a space cadet because I forgot where he lived. So there I was texting a friend 4600 miles away while watching an air show. Life is odd at times. By the way, he lives in Lodz. Just for trivia purposes...

Anyway, the way shooed us back to Michigan Avenue where we made a few minor stops at stores and grabbed a quick sushi lunch at the mall where the Lego store is. From there, we went back to that dang bookstore again, and somehow, I bought even MORE books. (there will be a full summary of books purchased at the end of this trip)

From there, I used my spidey sense and found a dinner location. We wound up eating at Fogo de Chao (http://www.fogodechao.com/) It's a Brazilian restaurant like Churrascaria Plataforma in NYC. Great food, definitely worth eating at. From there, we started to walk back but were greeted by a monsoon, so we grabbed a cab (in the rain!) and made it back to hotel. Rain stopped after a bit so we decided to go for a jog. We headed over to Buckingham fountain (you see it in the opening of Married with Children) and then made our way up to Millennium Park. Saw the "Bean" and heard an outdoor performance of an orchestra in the area while we jogged around.

Not bad for Official Day 1 of Vacation...
