Chicago 2008 - Part 2

So, where were we? Last Thursday, after work, a bunch of us stopped for drinks and then took the subway to the White Sox game, not the Cubs, the White Sox, as, you know, the White Sox have actually WON in the past 100 years (the Cubs do currently have the best record in baseball though, but, if I were a Cubs fan, I so wouldn't mention this right now, they're only playing with fire...) From the Loop (where my office is there), it was only 5(!) stops to the stadium, and a 5 minute walk (if that) to the stadium. The New Comiskey (or US Cellular Field) was really nice, hopefully everything the new stadiums in NY will be. Through a sweet deal with my company, the tickets came out to $38 a piece. But, you gotta see where I was...

Dude, I was 8 rows from the field, behind the Sox dugout. For $38 bucks!!!! In NYC, the only way this happens is if A) You kill the owners of the seats or B) Your last name is Giuliani
So it was a good game. We got 6 seats, my friend Jude was instrumental in getting us hooked up. They even had the best peanuts there, so that was good.

After the game, one of the group was nice enough to give us a lift back to the office/my hotel since it was a half block away.

By the way, the hotel of choice was the Hampton Inn, a nice little hotel with above average rooms, and free internet and breakfast, right in the middle of the loop. A good central place to stay.

Friday, was work and I was able to get some sightseeing in. This time, I headed up Michigan Avenue, over to the Chicago river, took a picture of a jet spray across it:

From there, I stopped at Navy Pier for a while and chilled, it was very windy and the water was very choppy, here, look:

From there, I headed along the lake to where Michigan Avenue meets the lake and headed west to Rush Street, from there, headed up to Ra Sushi (I'd been there before, probably mentioned in a post somewhere down this page) and stopped at Barnes and Noble. Next up, headed up to the ritzy Lincoln Park area, looked around, and made my way back to the Loop.

Onto the Blue Line to O'Hare. I still think Chicago has the best way to get to and from the airport if you're willing to take public transportation. Not surprisingly, the plane was running late, but I figured it would, so I chilled at the airport and took solace in the fact that my 5:20 flight boarded around 6:30 or so and left around the same time as the 2:45 PM flight to Newark left. So, it could have been much worse...

So, that's it for now. A quieter week ahead, but, out to Dallas the week after that....
